Spend Your Holidays with the Lovable Annie at Woodlawn Theatre

The Tony-Award Winning Musical Opens on November 23rd

SAN ANTONIO, TX – The delightful story of Annie, the orphan with the heart of gold, comes to San Antonio this Holiday season, bringing with it a message of positivity, love. and hope. The highly-entertaining production is sure to steal hearts and have audiences singing in their seats. Woodlawn Theatre’s Annie runs from November 23rd through December 23rd. Tickets are currently available at woodlawntheatre.org

Based on Thomas Meehan’s book, audiences find eleven-year-old Annie at Municipal Girls Orphanage in 1933’s New York City alongside fellow orphans Molly, Kate, Tessie, Pepper, July, and Duffy. Dreaming of a better life, Annie hatches a plan to escape the orphanage only to get caught and returned to the boozy Miss Hannigan. But, timing is everything as Grace Farrell, assistant to the billionaire Oliver Warbucks, is visiting the orphanage at the time of Annie’s return. Grace is in search of an orphan to spend the holidays at Oliver Warbucks’ mansion. To the chagrin of Miss Hannigan, Grace picks Annie whose life is forever changed as she changes those around her.

Woodlawn Theatre’s Annie features a bevy of young San Antonio performers, including Maya Abelow and Alex Phillips, both playing the role of Annie. “We are excited that our cast features 22 students from our growing youth program,” states Annie Director Christopher Rodriguez. “These kids are having a blast being involved in a mainstage production with our adult performers.”

With music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin Annie drips with captivating and memorable songs such as “It’s The Hard Knock Life,” “Easy Street,” “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile,” and “Tomorrow.” Kids and adults alike will be charmed by Annie’s message of faith and family. “Our family can help us get through rough patches, but a family can be much more than just blood relatives,” says Rodriguez. “An orphan or not, a family can be formed around any group that you love and care for and the musical Annie helps to remind our audiences of that.”

In keeping with Annie’s message, Woodlawn Theatre will be accepting donations benefitting the San Antonio Food Bank. Donations of peanut butter, cereal, rice, chili, canned foods, and more can be dropped off at the Theatre lobby during normal Box Office hours or prior to showtime.
