Live Stage Production of The Wizard of Oz Set to Delight San Antonio Audiences

SAN ANTONIO, TX – Experience the dazzling tale of Dorothy Gale’s journey through Oz live on stage in Woodlawn Theatre’s musical production of The Wizard of Oz. The celebrated classic runs from June 29th to July 29th with Friday, Saturday and Sunday performances. Tickets can be purchased at woodlawntheatre.org or by calling the box office at 210-267-8388.

Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion face the Wicked Witch of the West on the road to Emerald City in search of a brain, a heart, courage and a way back home. Based on MGM’s theatrical adaptation of Frank L. Baum’s novel, The Wizard of Oz comes to life on the Woodlawn Theatre stage bringing with it all of the magic and music that has captivated audiences  for almost 80 years.

The Wizard of Oz is a family classic that spans many generations. Its iconic cinema stamp for the big screen reached audiences by breaking new boundaries with technicolor technology,” states Rick Sanchez, Director of The Wizard of Oz. “Its story about bravery, heart, and determination is an adventurous, yet ambitious journey to recreate for the stage and reminds us of the importance of hope and home while entertaining children of ALL ages.”

Choreographer Michelle Pietri and Musical Director Jamie Ramirez complete the production team readying the musical for its June 29th debut. “Our approach at the Woodlawn Theatre for staging this production is to reach audiences with a more immersive theatrical approach that allows them to make deeper connections with the story and Dorothy’s journey through Kansas and the Land of Oz,” says Sanchez.

During The Wizard of Oz run, Woodlawn Theatre will be accepting donations to benefit SnipSA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping homeless and unwanted animals in and around San Antonio. In addition, Woodlawn Theatre has partnered with Bihl Haus Arts to incorporate local visual art with performance art. David Guerrero, a retired NISD art teacher, will exhibit his works during The Wizard of Oz production in the Woodlawn Theatre lobby.

The Wizard of Oz opens on June 29th and runs through July 29th and is presented by arrangement with Tams-Witmark Music Library, Inc., 560 Lexington Ave., New York, NY 10022.
