Woodlawn After Dark Press Release

Woodlawn Theatre Develops “Woodlawn After Dark” Cabaret Signature Series

A Celebration of Broadway to be Central Theme for 2018 Season

Woodlawn Theatre introduces its new late-night cabaret series “Woodlawn After Dark.”  The series will showcase feature performers and special walk-up guests with the goal of presenting new, local talent while continuing the tradition of after hour cabaret socials.

“Woodlawn After Dark” will take place twice during each 2018 production including every opening night and is free of charge to theatre attendees and the general public. The Series will begin immediately following the mainstage curtain call with Woodlawn Theatre Executive/Artistic Director Christopher Rodriguez and award-winning director and actor Tim Hedgepeth acting as co-directors. “Woodlawn After Dark” kicks off on February 23rd. There will be a special “Woodlawn After Dark” to coincide with The Big Give SA on March 22, 2018.

“Late night cabarets have a long history in the San Antonio Theatre community, and five years ago when we collaborated with Rebecca Trinidad for her cabaret, we were thrilled to bring this event back to the weekend theatre scene,” states Rodriguez. “With our own new re-vamped version, we want to bring some new energy and different visions to each night and I'm excited to have one of my favorite directors, Tim Hedgepeth, working side by side with me on this new adventure. Together we have come up with a different theme for each night, and we will also pick different hosts and featured performers for each night.”

This season’s main theme is a celebration of Broadway. Theme nights include “Love is in the Air,” “Broadway Rocks,” “A Cole Porter Evening,” and “A Jerry Herman Evening,” to name a few. The intent is to provide an avenue for audiences and performers to engage in a lively, intimate setting. “I believe the shows will be a real treat for our audiences and provide some great opportunities for our musical theatre artists,” explains Hedgepeth. There will be 3 to 4 performers, walk-up guests, and a special host dedicated for every “Woodlawn After Dark” show. The Woodlawn Theatre bar will remain and a food truck will be on hand to feed any late night cravings.

“Woodlawn After Dark” premieres on February 23rd after The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber performance. For a list of dates, themes, and information on how to perform or host, please visit woodlawntheatre.org.
